2014 Annuals Revealed

The covers for the 2014 annual covers have been revealed over on Amazon, beating Play.com who revealed them first exactlye one year ago today! So, here is the line-up. All the prices are according to Amazon, although the final prices will probably be different, and all the D.C Thomson books are due for release on the 5th July.

The Beano:

I'm not too sure about this one, looks a bit boring considering it's a huge achievement for the comic! Needs a bit more going on, but good artwork by Nigel Parkinson.

£7.19

The Dandy:

This is a great cover by Ken H. Harrison; I really like the green for the background! Ken is fantastic at drawing Desperate Dan, so I'm glad they chose him to illustrate this cover.

£7.19

The Beano and The Dandy:

My favourite annual this year is the Beano and Dandy Silly Singg-Along, which has a fantastic cover, also by Ken H. Harrison - there is so much going on everywhere you look! A great festive theme, I might save this one for Christmas!

£11.69

The Broons:

The Broons annual also had a festive cover, this time by Peter Davidson. I like this cover, and like The Beano and Dandy Silly Sing-Along book it has a very Christmassy theme about it, and it looks as though it could have been hand painted!

£6.29

The Broons and Oor Wullie:

I'm not at all sure about this cover. It is an interesting idea, but it looks very messy and confusing. If I was just looking at it on the shelves I wouldn't know that it was about The Broons and Oor Wullie just by the cover.

£11.69

UPDATE!!

Turns out that isn't the Broons and Oor Wullie cover, but is possibly an inside page. The correct cover is illustrated below, but for more information click on this link!

Not sure about The Beano Annual 2014 cover, it needs to have more going for it considering the huge event. The concept is great but it doesn't look exciting enough. Still, I can see Ball Boy on the cover which is nice to see as I always felt Ball Boy was never really included in group pictures too much despite being in the comic since 1975!

The Dandy Annual 2014 cover looks really nice, I'm glad they have Ken Harrison drawing it as well - but I think it also looks too bland and the vibrant green for me personally does not work.

The Beano and Dandy Silly Sing-Along cover looks incredible though. Ken Harrison once again showing just how amazing his drawing talents are!

The Broons annual cover looks warming, I like the scene and the colours but I won't be buying this annual.

The Broons and Oor Wullie book looks like a mess and I didn't even realise it was The Broons and Oor Wullie to begin with! Good, original idea but not very good for selling aspects.

The Horrible Histories Annual has a great cover, very eye-catching. The Doctor Who Annual is a little dull, would have liked to have seen all 11 Doctors given the special anniversary. And I don't like the Horrid Henry one at all, it looks a little tacky.

I agree with you about the Oor Wullie one, I didn;t realise it was the annual either. Hopefully D C Thomson will realise their mistake and change it before it goes on sale!

I also think the Doctor Who annual should show all the doctors, after all it is a big celebration for the programme!

I like the idea of it, it looks good - but if people don't recognise that the annual is The Broons & Oor Wullie first time around - then how do they expect to sell as many copies as they usually do?

One thing I'm not keen on with The Dandy Annual 2014 cover is that the logo is so small and the 'y' is half-hidden behind Desperate Dan. I'm sure I'm not the only one who just wishes they used the current logo instead of the old one they seem to slap on every Dandy product except the actual comic.

The Doctor Who Annual looks too bland - it should definitely have included all 11 Doctors at least! I love Matt Smith's Doctor but for such a special occasion, surely the annual cover could have been a little more impressive?

Great to see all these comments about the DCT titles. The Broons / Oor Wullie title is not the new one from this year.

Search the following isbn on Amazon to get the new 2014 gift book. 978-1845355111.

The image of the Beano cover is a bit off centre, which will not be the case on the final book

I got an email link for that yesterday! I wonder what the image from above is then, it certainly wouldn't work as an annual cover.

I'll update the post later today.
