Beano #3580 - What's wrong?

The latest issue of The Beano has let us down (and so have I, with that 70's comic I keep promising! I've finally decided - it's to be a 1979 issue of Whoopee.)First of all - it's £1.50!! And Barak Obama?!?! What is he doing on the cover? Maybe if I read the comic backwards there is some sort of secret message! In the Dennis and Gnasher story Obama, obviously, is in it. Dennis has a mobile phone (*sigh*) and has to get permission from the American government to menace the president's bodyguards. Surely he should just go out thre and menace them anyway.

Oh - and get rid of that mobile! As usual, Meebo and Zuky is a letdown, still thinking that the Cat vs dog thing is a good idea (or maybe I'm just too used to it)... but the Minnie the Minx strip, although it may sound strange - it's actually true!

Now were going to zoom over to the centre pages, to the pull-out poster. I'm hardly surprised it wasn't advertised on the cover or even in the previous issue, it's rubbish! It's very pixelated and all the images have just been taken out of previous Beano's and put on top of each other. I can't see many people hanging that on their wall!
Long live the Beano!

This week's was fantastic in my opinion, I particularly liked Ball Boy and The Bash Street Kids! I also liked Dennis the Menace and even though Obama does feature, it'll be a one off so what's the worry? Also what's wrong with Dennis using a mobile phone, we're in 2011 and every kid about his age and over has a mobile so why can't he. The Beano needs modernising instead of staying old school...

Also the reason it is £1.50 is because the paper is a lot better, less flimsy, more neater and makes the comic hold better and feel more like a comic.

Also, yes, the poster was bad but still a nice idea, if they can improve the quality I think it would be a nice added gift!

Thanks for that, great argument! :) The paper quality is still the same as before, but in the modern world everything is going up in price! Still, it's not the best it could be. Maybe they should stop the Robbie Rebel reprints (and any other reprints they put in it) and start a new character! Several new characters even...

I hope it will follow in the footsteps of the Dandy, with NO reprints.

None the less, the comic was better than previous issues, (the first #3577 was terrible, it had it's facts wrong, spelling mistajes and it just didn't feel..... special)!

If you check the weight and and the flimsiness of issues 3579 and 3580 you can tell a real difference, but yes, sadly everything goes up in price, like the BeanoMAX, £3.99, I swear it used to be £2.50... Also if they can get rid of Robbie, get some new characters and (new) old classics (not reprints) as well as the usual roster then we could be in for a good comic!

Let's hope so, although the Dandy has been guilty of four reprints so far: Dr. Doctor, Professor Dandy's World of Facts, Yore and Phil's Finger.

Absolutely, the birthday issue just stank of reprints and incorrect dates...

Haha - yes! I noticed the "reprints" in the Dandy, just a stupid mistake though (or is it??? Maybe that's what happens when artsits forget to do any work that week!)I'm sure with just a few of changes the Beano would be 100% funny (as the Dandy claimes it is...)! It recently got a new editor so we might see a few changes soon!

Ah, yes... Just went back ober the comic. I can definatly see the difference in paper quality. Maybe this is Micheal Sterling's first change.

I spoke to Michael Stirling (well, he contacted me first!), anyway he's a great guy, gave away a lot, why not join our Beano Forum: http://beanoforum.freeforums.org/ , so you can read it?
Hopefully no more reprints, reprints suck... :(

Thanks for that, just been there.

P.s. Have you heard of Whizzer and Chips?

Who hasn't heard of Whizzer and Chips?! Visited your blog for them as well, love it, will follow. :)
Can you follow mine please?
My favourite characters were Odd Ball, Joker, The Bumpkin Billionaires (did that feature in W&C?), Calculator Kid (Buster?), Beat your Neighbour and The Leopard on Lime Street (One of many few adventure strips I liked)
Greatest UK adventure strips: Billy the Cat, General Jumbo, Leopard on Lime Street and the Jellymen, the Comet was okay I guess... :)

Yep, I'll follow your blog! Whizzer and chips is my favorite comic of all time. Yes, the Bumpkin billionaires came over to W&C with whoopee in 1985, and were very popular with the readers. I asked because you call yourself wizzkid, whizzkid, geddit? I have the first issue and the second to last issue of it. Waiting for a first to be put up for sale somewhere on the net...

Oh, and I've listed your blog on the side -->

Yeah, some people wonder why I call myself that but it's cos of the comic I work for called the Wizzo so that's why, but yeah, I always liked the Whizz Kids, much better than the Chip-ites. :)

Thank you very much, added you to my sidebar links! :D

Anyway, I saw your Ken Reid art style, it still needs some tweaks here and there but once you perfect it I'm sure it'll be amazing! Also why not join this site: http://www.deviantart.com/ , I'm on there: http://wizzkid97.deviantart.com/ and lotsa Dandy artists, it's free and a great place to make new friends and get noticed, I'll add you. :)
